Fabrics for J.

Here are three fabrics I bought to make blouses for my dearest friend J. I am still working on finishing her muslin so it may be a while before they are finished but I believe in doing it right, not doing it fast.

As far as her  muslin/sloper goes, I have finished the sleeve and the back to the point of first correction. I have yet to do the front and collar. After I am done cleaning up the lines on paper I will then cut it out onto lavender gingham, sew it up and try it out on her Betsy. Depending on how well it fits, I will either mail it to J and have her tell me what she thinks about the fit of the wearing ease, do some corrections, or just press ahead and start making garments from the sloper. I will post pictures of the process of draping the original muslin onto her duct tape dress form,a.k.a her Betsy in another post.

Dreams

I had a dream the other night about how I approach creating and sharing it with others. I think every artist at some point goes through a journey with the question of "If I am going to make to sell, what should I make?". The dream told me to be more confident, less shy and Let My Art Out.  If I follow my inspiration the right people will come to me. Before I had been thinking along the lines of what could I make that would sell. Doing so gave me creative cramps and a touch of anxiety. My process had been ass backwards. I have taken the advice of my dream and I feel so much better. I am also more productive.

Fiber Art and all things string are part of my vitality. Fiber touches everything we are in my eyes. Even the muscles in our bodies are fibrous. String people communicate the joy and love in living through the manipulation of threads. Fiber is intimate.

I will say that I am not the best writer and rarely take pleasure in it. I enjoy the communication with others, but writing itself is not my medium. A hand knit sweater or the wildness of a punk rock haircut are more my thing. This first entry is short and just a little test blurb. I have no experience with blogging but we all must start somewhere.
